THE ROAD TO BETHLEHEM TELLS THE CHRISTMAS STORY THROUGH THE PEOPLE WHO HAD TO LIVE IT
A sacred-symphonic musical narrative of 51 original creations, preceded by a Prelude of twelve musical chapters
Sinclair Simons & The Silent Future present The Road to Bethlehem - A Musical Journey of Trust, Courage, and Humanity: an expansive sacred-symphonic musical narrative of 51 original creations, spread across three albums.
On 4 October 2026, the Prelude is released first, consisting of twelve musical chapters. It offers a first encounter with the musical and emotional world of the complete work before the three albums begin to appear from 23 October.
For Sinclair Simons, the project began with his love of classical music, Christmas music and stories that move people. He admires the great musical narratives through which the Christmas story has been told over the centuries, but at times felt that the personal emotional world of the people who had to live through those events remained less visible.
What might Mary and Joseph have thought when the life they knew changed? How might they have found calm again after tension? And what was happening to the shepherds, townspeople and Wise Men around the familiar moments?
From these questions grew a more human exploration, in which events are connected by love, fear, responsibility, trust and small decisions.
“What I found so beautiful was taking time with each part of the story and asking what a deeply human response might have been in that moment. What might someone feel, think or do when something like this happens? From that perspective I approached Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the townspeople and the Wise Men - with feelings and questions that people today can still recognise.”
FIRST THE SCENE, THEN THE SONG
The albums do not follow only the familiar events. Simons added human scenes and transitions that might have taken place between them.
First comes the situation or emotion, only then the song.
When Joseph reaches the stable, he does not find an ideal solution, but he does find a place where Mary can be safe. His response is small and decisive: "This is it." His certainty allows Mary to slowly regain a sense of calm.
Elsewhere, too, the story is given room to breathe: silence returning to a home after tension, someone surrendering to what can no longer be changed, a quiet journey, or a moment of calm disturbed by a new threat.
Calm is not the end point. Through this alternation, both the stillness and the next wave of urgency become more strongly felt.
The human and the heavenly are deliberately placed side by side: doubt, fear and courage opposite faith, trust and mystery. The added scenes are not presented as new biblical facts, but as musical reflections on possible human feelings and responses.
THREE ALBUMS, ONE CONTINUOUS STORY
1/3 - The Promise
The Promise follows expectation, uncertainty and the choices facing Mary and Joseph. The promise does not bring immediate certainty, but places their relationship and future under pressure. Decisions grow out of doubt, love, responsibility and the need to find one another again. The first album ends with the Roman decree, the census and the road to Bethlehem.
2/3 - The King Is Born
The King Is Born follows the arrival in Bethlehem, the closed doors and the search for a safe place.
After The First Breath, Mary holds her child for the first time. In Aria of Mary - So This Is Your Face, she looks at the face she has waited so long to see.
Only then does heaven awaken in The Heavens Awake, confirming who the child is. The story then moves to the shepherds by the fire, the angel and the announcement of the birth of Jesus.
3/3 - Fulfilment
Fulfilment shifts towards the Wise Men, Herod and the consequences of Bethlehem. Trust, reverence and generosity stand opposite suspicion, power and fear.
After gold, frankincense and myrrh, the road begins again. The flight into Egypt shows that danger has not disappeared even after fulfilment. The thematic conclusion is found in This Was Never Only About Bethlehem. The song carries the light of Bethlehem into the present and passes it on as an invitation to look towards others with greater courage, trust and humanity.
Choir of Fulfilment and the Grand Orchestral Epilogue then provide the choral and orchestral culmination of the journey.
THE PRELUDE AS A FIRST VIEW OF THE WHOLE
The Prelude is released on 4 October, the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, in the year marking 800 years since his death.
In Greccio, Francis brought the Christmas story closer to people through a living Nativity scene. That same sense of human closeness is an important idea within The Road to Bethlehem.
The twelve chapters of the Prelude already reveal how the larger musical narrative moves between intimacy and scale, between human doubt and heavenly wonder.
For listeners, media, cultural platforms and other interested audiences, the Prelude therefore offers a first opportunity to discover the world of the complete project before the three albums are released.

MUSIC THAT LEAVES ROOM TO FEEL
The music moves between intimate voices, choir and full orchestra. English and Italian are the principal languages.
Silence, slowing down and room to breathe are just as important as the large choral and orchestral moments.
Simons hopes listeners will find not only beauty, but also recognition, emotion and unexpected insight.
A WORLD THAT CAN CONTINUE TO GROW
Although the albums are now at the centre of the project, The Road to Bethlehem has been conceived as a musical world that could later develop towards concert, opera, music theatre or site-specific production.
At present, no live production has been announced.
